During the early years of CCT at the TPGA Annual Conferences, Don presented workshops from a Christian perspective. CCT was instrumental in the planning of the Prayer Breakfast, promoted CCT and offered Christian counseling books at a booth, and held The King’s Reception—often in a hotel room with a sitting area paid for by Don and Dr. Travis Holland or other CCT members. Always and ever looking for opportunities to promote Christian counseling and encourage Christian counselors, Don was adept at identifying and enlisting others to serve in CCT. Don served two terms as President of CCT and has been a Keynote Speaker for the annual conference. Don is responsible for the initial writing of the CCT By-Laws and the adoption of the first CCT Code of Ethics. Instrumental in Chapter Development, Don appointed the first CCT Long-Term Planning Committee from which grew the first CCT Chapter in Houston in 1985. Since then eight other chapters were developed throughout the state, supporting CCT members in their communities.
Overseeing the Installation of Officers each year, Don wrote the inspirational script of this commissioning service, gathering past officers to lay hands on and pray with incoming officers. Don has served as Parliamentarian at more Board meetings than probably any other person in CCT. Don developed the Good of the Order Resolution which guides the Board in keeping its vision and attention on God’s purpose and plan for CCT. Don’s commitment CCT graduate students who are preparing for future work with clients or who wish to engage in research in these fields are welcome and encouraged to apply. Through this effort, CCT invests in the ongoing legacy begun by Dr. Smith.
